Good News for Shannon – Self Driving Cars

A new multi-million euro government grant means Clare is poised to become a hotbed for the development of self-driving cars.

The County is to benefit from a 4.7 million euro in Regional Enterprise Funding, allowing for the development of a major new campus in Shannon.

Twenty-six applicants from across the country have been approved over €40 million in total for their collaborative projects in the third call of the Regional Enterprise Development Fund.

The fund is a Government initiative under Project Ireland 2040 and aligns with the Department’s Future Jobs Ireland framework.

Clare has secured one of the largest allocations, with €4.7 million approved for the development of a Future Mobility Campus and test bed for connected and autonomous vehicles at Shannon.

This facility will enable companies to add value to their businesses by testing new technologies.

In addition, two other Midwest projects will also benefit from a share in 850,000 euro in funding.
