Shannon’s St Patrick’s Day Parade Cancelled

As everyone is aware all St. Patrick’s Day Parades in Ireland have now been cancelled in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus, including Shannon Town. ‘Love Shannon’ and the committee of Shannon’s St. Patricks Day Event would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved. Firstly, thanks to our willing sponsors for their kindness and generosity. They are Carmody & Co, Concept Signs, Dunnes Stores, Lloyds Pharmacy, McDonald’s, McNamara Printers, The Shannon Knights, Sean Hillery Pharmacy, Shannon Duty Free, Shannon Heritage, Supermacs and Skycourt Management.

Secondly, we want to thank the entrants of the parade, for all the preparation in organising members, floats, and all the other hidden aspects that go into committing to such an event. This massive contribution maintains the continuation of this wonderful time-honoured tradition.

Finally, to this year’s organising committee, thank you for all the hard work you put in. A special note of thanks to Shannon Chamber of Commerce for all the support and to Damien O’Rourke who had a fantastic pre and post-parade music line-up. We would also like to thank the artists who were freely giving their time, this includes David Hope, Alison Hayes, Colm McGuinness, and God Knows, along with all who signed up for ‘Buskers Way’.

‘Love Shannon’ had taken on organising this year’s parade in honour of the late Cllr Mike McKee. We remain in awe of the seamless organising abilities of Mike and Eileen McKee, Cllr Donna McGettigan, and John Drysdale, whose diligence and attention to detail were able to deliver a parade for Shannon Town year on year. Without the help and guidance of Eileen, Donna, and John, Shannon Men’s Shed, and Shannon Tidy Towns, we would still be scratching our heads and wondering how to tackle such an undertaking.

‘LoveShannon’ hopes to organise a community event later in the year. For now, the health and wellbeing of our community are of the utmost importance at this time. Love from ‘LoveShannon’ and the organising committee of Shannon’s St. Patricks Day Event.
